Fall Weed Wrangles
Join the Daviess-Martin CISMA (Cooperative Invasive Species Management Area) in October for two
chances to learn about invasive plants and help control them in our parks. Invasive plants threaten
parks and natural areas by outcompeting native vegetation, degrading wildlife habitat, and increasing
tick populations. Help us improve forest health and recreation by volunteering at a Weed Wrangle!
The first Weed Wrangle will take place Friday October 11 th at Overlook Park in Shoals, from 9am to
Noon. Volunteers will work alongside CISMA members and Daviess-Martin REMC employees to learn
how to identify and remove invasive plants such as Burning Bush, Honeysuckle, and Periwinkle. The
park is located directly on US-50, on the west end of Shoals at the top of the hill.
The second Weed Wrangle will be Tuesday October 22 nd , from 1:00pm – 3:00pm at West Boggs Park
north of Loogootee on US-231. Entry fees are waived for Volunteers, who should meet at the
Cedarwood Shelter, located just past the park’s entrance on the left. This workday will remove invasive
brush such as Honeysuckle, Autumn Olive, and Tree-of-Heaven.
RSVPs are not required for either event, but volunteers should come prepared with sturdy shoes and
work gloves. Water will be provided, along with hand tools for pulling and cutting shrubs, but
volunteers may also bring their own loppers or hand saws. Minors must be accompanied by an adult,
and have a waiver form signed by a parent/guardian. No prior experience is needed.

also supported by the Martin and Daviess County Soil & Water Conservation Districts, with funding in
part from a Clean Water Indiana grant. For more information on invasive species in Daviess and Martin
