Early Morning Gun Accident Injures Jasper Man, Brings Criminal Charge for Another

Jasper - An early morning accidental discharge of a 9mm gun has sent one Jasper man to the hospital and brought Criminal Recklessness charges to another.

Tuesday, just after 7:20 a.m., the Jasper Police Department received a call for assistance at 1715 Greene Street for a male with a gunshot wound to the leg.


Responding officers determined that Bereket Cox, 21, was showing the victim, Douglas Hernandez, 44, his 9mm pistol when it accidently discharged.

Hernandez received injuries to his leg and was transported to Jasper's Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center.

Cox has been charged with Criminal Recklessness with a firearm, a Level 6 Felony. He has been released to appear in Dubois Circuit Court.
