Dubois County Road Rejuvenation Project Underway
The Dubois County Board of Commissioners met on Tuesday morning for their regular meeting
that was rescheduled due to the Labor Day weekend.
Highway Superintendent Steve Berg told the board that Lunch and Learn will be held this
month at the Fairgrounds, and breakfast will be served following the program entitled “Self-
Care.” Berg provided a progress report on the Rejuvenation project, saying that road treatment
work on Schnellville Road has been completed up to State Road 64. On Tuesday, work begins
on Division Road from Jasper city limits moving west and on Jasper Dubois Road. County
Highway Engineer Brent Wendholt also provided updates on current bridge repairs and some
recommended repair methods that will be tested for expanded use.
The Commissioners approved the signing of an Interlocal Agreement presented by Dubois
County Health Department Director Shawn Werner. Additional budgeting was also allocated for
the creation of a new full-time nursing position and two part time community health worker
positions. Werner reported that a program for parenting education and pregnancy health
initiatives has been popular, and currently has a wait list. The additional employees will be used
to support the growing program.
In other business, Commissioner Blessinger told the board that the proposed monument for the
courthouse square being completed as part of an Eagle Scout project is approaching final
approval, and progress is being made in construction. Dubois County Community Corrections
Director Wyatt Madden successfully petitioned the Commissioners for an administrative
assistance job shadow position. Madden said that the new temporary position will be used to
train a replacement for a departing employee. Disposal of surplus items was also approved, and
information regarding solar projects was reviewed.
