Dubois County Museum to Host Spring Lecture Series: Genealogy and History
Local Sources - The Dubois County Museum is excited about a new program for this summer.
It is a
Summertime Lecture Series featuring local historians and knowledgeable people from Dubois County. A listing of the topics, speakers and dates are as follows:
Saturday, April 23, beginning at 1:30p.m. Members of the Dubois County Genealogical Society
will give a presentation on their research and findings, how to go about researching your roots
and a tour of the Dubois County Genealogical Society’s Library at the museum. Speakers will be
Tom Kellams, Mike Humbert and Judy Welp. Much of Tom Kellams work on genealogy is at the
museum. He has spent a large portions of his life researching local genealogy and his own
family tree. His work is available at the museum in the Genealogy Library. Mike Humbert will
share his knowledge of using the computer to research family descendants. Judy Welp has
spent hours traveling local graveyards and uncovering information about these pioneers.
Participants are encouraged to ask questions and to bring items for discussion.
Saturday, June 4, beginning at 1:30 p.m. Local director from LST (Landing Ship, Tank) will give a
presentation on the LST and its role in D Day operations.
Saturday, June 11, beginning at 1:30 p.m. Meet Dot Lewis. Dot Lewis is a Jasper native, who
created and operates several Facebook groups. She has created a Facebook post which she
calls Dubois County History Online. Participants are invited for this Meet and Greet with Dot
Lewis to bring items of interest to the program.
Saturday, July 23, beginning at 1:30 p.m. Local historian, Junie Himsel, will share his interest in
searching for and repairing pioneer graves in cemeteries in the area and in neighboring states.
Registration is not required; refreshments will be served.
