Dubois County Health Department Wants Youth Vaccinated For HPV to Prevent Certain Cancers
FROM THE DUBOIS COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT
JASPER -- The Dubois County Health Department, along with the American Cancer Society (ACS), is continuing its efforts with the county wide HPV (human papillomavirus) vaccine initiative.
The
goal is to reduce the rate of cancer in our community, secondary to HPV infections, through
vaccination and education.
The grant has been focused on 11-12-year old boys and girls of
Dubois County; however, the health department wants to vaccinate every boy and girl age 9-26
years.
The HPV vaccine is cancer prevention. HPV vaccine has proven that it is safe, effective, and
provides long-lasting protection against cancers caused by HPV.
The COVID-19 pandemic has created unprecedented challenges, but prevention of HPV related
cancers remains a public health priority, and Dubois County must continue efforts in reducing
the rate of cancer in the community. Now is NOT the time to skip vaccinations.
One of the best
ways to protect our children is by vaccinating.
The health department understands how difficult it may be for parents to get their child(ren)
vaccinated. Not only is the Dubois County Health Department Immunization Department open
Monday through Friday but extended hours and school-based clinics are offered to
accommodate busy schedules.
They have the ability to bill private insurance and also serve
those who are underinsured, receiving Medicaid, or uninsured.
Any child should be able to
receive this vaccine regardless of their financial status.
School-based vaccination clinics will be starting in March at all Dubois County schools for 5th
-
12th graders. Parents be on the lookout for information on how to register your student.
