Dubois County Democrats Announce Jasper Teacher to Replace Granados For County Council At-Large Seat

FROM LOCAL SOURCES

JASPER -- Dubois County Democrats have announced Atalie Schroering will run for County Council in November’s General Election.

The registered nurse and Health Science Teacher at Jasper High School replaces Mikayla Granados on the democratic ballot.

She was forced to drop out of the race for the At-Large seat after State Sen. Mark Messmer filed a legal challenge to her candidacy.  He and the local Republican Party argued the young candidate was not eligible to run since she has a felony conviction on her record.

Sen. Messmer is the State Senate majority leader and chairman of the Dubois County Republican Party.

“I am interested in the community, concerned about adequate health care, counseling and rehabilitation, effective use of taxpayer dollars and opposed to the proposed Mid-States Corridor,” Schroering wrote in a statement released to local media this week. “I want all people to have their issues and concerns heard on the County Council, not just the influential.”

Schroering will run for one of three seats on the county council along with fellow democrats Matt Brosmer and Todd Cassidy.

Sonya L Haas, Mike Kluesner and Doug Uebelhor are running for County Council At-Large on the Republican ticket.
