Dubois City Council Approves Hiring of Two Deputy Coroners

Jasper - At Monday's Dubois County Common Council Meeting, the Council approved the hiring of two part-time Deputy Coroners.

Coroner Katie Schuck led the proposal for the Coroner's Office, which previously had been operating with four total staff members, including herself. In addition to paid hours, the employees are currently on call for 84 hours per two-week pay period. Should the on-call Coroner be called out, they are paid $60 per case.

The move comes on the heels of an increased workload as patients are drawn in from other counties to Memorial Hospital, and difficulties posed by COVID-19 quarantines.

The total approved budget for the office once additional coroners are hired will be $53,000 total.
