Dubois and Surrounding Counties Appear to be Making Progress in Fight Against COVID-19 as Numbers Drop For First Time in Over a Month

AREAWIDE -- The Dubois County area appears to be headed in the right direction as officials continue to battle the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

18 new cases of COVID-19 were reported Monday in Dubois County.  No new deaths reported in the latest update.  The county’s seven-day positivity rate continues to drop.  It stands at 18.8%.

We remain at a CODE RED designation.

Local hospital numbers are also improving today.  31% of the ICU beds in District 10 are currently available.  Two weeks ago, that number was just 10%.

Elsewhere across the area Monday:  15 new cases were reported in Perry County; 14 in Lawrence County; in Crawford County, nine new cases were reported.

Spencer and Orange counties each added eight new cases Monday; six in Daviess County; five in Pike County and four new cases were reported in Martin County.

STATEWIDE NUMBERS:

The Indiana Department of Health today announced that 2,548 additional Hoosiers have been diagnosed with COVID-19 through testing at state and private laboratories. That brings to 592,709 the number of Indiana residents now known to have had the novel coronavirus following corrections to the previous day’s dashboard.

A total of 8,966 Hoosiers are confirmed to have died from COVID-19, an increase of 30 from the previous day. Another 374 probable deaths have been reported based on clinical diagnoses in patients for whom no positive test is on record. Deaths are reported based on when data are received by the state and occurred over multiple days.

To date, 2,839,505 unique individuals have been tested in Indiana, up from 2,831,352 on Sunday. A total of 6,462,786 tests, including repeat tests for unique individuals, have been reported to the state Department of Health since Feb. 26, 2020.

To date, nearly 303,000 Hoosiers have received their first dose of vaccine, and nearly 64,000 have been fully vaccinated.
