DR. LOREY RESIGNATION FROM GJCS

In an email sent on Friday night, Dr. Tracy Lorey announced that she will be stepping down from her role as Superintendent of Greater Jasper Consolidated Schools. Effective February 3, 2025, she will leave her current position in order to serve as the Deputy Secretary of Education for the State of Indiana.

In his public agenda for Indiana schools, Governor Mike Braun has emphasized his goal to “ensure every Hoosier family has the same freedom to choose their best-fit education.” Lorey echoed this same goal in her farewell. She looked to the future, saying, “This new chapter will allow me to serve not just our local community but all Hoosiers, advocating for innovative solutions and stronger systems…ensuring every child, regardless of their zip code, has access to a high-quality education.”

As the Board of Education begins the search for its new Superintendent, Lorey gave assurances that she would provide her support. She thanked the students, staff, and families of GJCS, reflecting, “Serving as your Superintendent has been one of the greatest honors of my career.” She applauded the district’s many victories, predicting continued success in the coming years. Having received her bachelor’s degree in Education at USI, Lorey earned her Master’s and PhD at ISU. She then began her professional career with Greater Jasper schools, serving as teacher, principal, Assistant Superintendent, and Superintendent. In her new role, she will continue to serve Indiana as Deputy Secretary of Education for the State of Indiana. Joining Governor Braun and Secretary of Education Fr. Katie Jenner, Lorey said that she will continue her work in representing students and families.
