Dr. Katie Jenner, Indiana’s Secretary of Education, Announced as ATHENA Keynote Speaker

The Rotary Club of Dubois County is honored to announce that the 2024 ATHENA Awards Banquet keynote speaker will be Dr. Katie Jenner, Indiana Secretary of Education. The 2024 ATHENA Awards Banquet will be held on Wednesday, September 18th, at the Huntingburg Event Center.

"Dr. Katie Jenner will undoubtedly inspire anyone who comes to our 12th annual ATHENA Awards Banquet," said ATHENA Event Chairperson Manda Combs. "As a female leader in the state house, she will bring a dynamic and unique perspective to share with the audience about her journey and how she has worked to reach her goals."

As the state's first Secretary of Education, Dr. Katie Jenner leads the Indiana Department of Education and chairs the State Board of Education with a learner-centered, future-focused vision. Under Dr. Jenner's leadership, Indiana is focused on three key pillars:

  *   Student learning and opportunity
  *   Educator talent, quality, and value
  *   System alignment and capacity

Indiana has deployed several tactical solutions within each of these three pillars. This work includes securing and implementing Indiana's largest-ever financial investment in literacy focused on the science of reading, launching a comprehensive teacher supply/demand marketplace that tracks vacancies, matches teachers with open positions, and helps recruit new teachers, as well as developing Indiana Graduates Prepared to Succeed (Indiana GPS), a new performance dashboard which re-envisions how the state strategically measures school performance and student learning.

Dr. Jenner believes that by supporting students in finding their purpose, knowing their value, and understanding the possibilities for their life's path, our K-12 system can ensure all students emerge prepared for a dynamic future, whether they choose employment, enrollment, or enlistment leading to service.

"I’m thrilled to come to Dubois County to elevate and celebrate the 2024 ATHENA award finalists who work every day toward the betterment of their community and our state," said Dr. Jenner. “To make real impact, it takes key change agents at the community and state level who are relentlessly passionate and devoted to making it better for others. I look forward to meeting these strong women in Dubois County.

This year's ATHENA Award Finalists from Dubois County are Deb Capps, Peggy Amos-Huff, Tammy Lampert, Jodi Routson, and Mary Warner. All finalists will be celebrated at the September 18th event, with one being named the 2024 ATHENA Award Recipient.
