Crouse Running for Superior Court Judge
Local Sources - Former Dubois County Prosecuting Attorney Kevin Crouse has announced his
candidacy for Dubois Superior Court Judge and is seeking the Republican Party
nomination.
In announcing his candidacy, Crouse said that it was an honor and a
privilege to serve as Prosecutor, and that he wants to dedicate himself to serving the
citizens of Dubois County as Superior Court Judge.
“Having been an attorney for over 30 years, I have handled the types of cases that
are heard in Superior Court. Also, similar to a judge, a Prosecuting Attorney makes
judgments involving the law on a daily basis, such as evaluating cases, determining
whether to file criminal charges and if so what charges to file, assessing the strength of
cases and choosing how to resolve them, deciding appropriate sentences to offer, etc.
The experience gained as prosecutor is one of the reasons that many prosecutors become
judges. As a former prosecutor I support our law enforcement, and I oppose efforts to
remove personal responsibility and accountability for a person's actions.”
"As your Judge I would do everything that I could to protect your peace and civil
liberties and to defend your constitutional rights. Some judges decide cases based upon
their personal leanings and try to legislate from the bench. I believe that judges should
follow the law and the constitution. I took pride in the fact that as prosecutor I treated
everyone fairly and equally, yet accountable for their actions. I will continue that
practice as judge. I will be neutral, open-minded, patient, and unbiased when deciding
cases. I will carefully consider the facts and evidence of a particular case and the
applicable law, and I will consider all sides of a case before making a decision."
Crouse grew up helping out in his grandparents’ store in Haysville and on the
family farm. He was salutatorian of the Northeast Dubois High School class of 1980.
Crouse received a bachelor's degree from Indiana University and received his law degree
from the Indiana University School of Law, Indianapolis.
Following law school Crouse returned to Dubois County and opened his law
practice. Crouse practiced law in Jasper until being elected Prosecuting Attorney in
2010, and since stepping down from that position. In addition to being an attorney,
Crouse formed Crouse Disposal Services in 1998 and owned and operated it until the
business was sold.
Crouse is married to the former Michelle Popp, and is the son of Gladys Crouse
and the late Ralph "Bud" Crouse. He is a member of Christ Lutheran Church in
Haysville. Crouse is a member and past president of the Dubois County Bar Association.
"As Judge I would render fair, non-partisan decisions, but it needs to be
recognized that this is an elected position subject to the Republican primary. Over the
past 30 years I have served as a vice precinct committeeperson, a precinct
committeeperson, Republican Central Committee secretary, county coordinator for two
governor campaigns, supported and aided other Republican candidates, and I am the only
Republican ever elected Prosecutor in Dubois County. I have put in the work, and I look
forward to continuing to work for the people of Dubois County."
“I appreciate the people of Dubois County putting their trust in me when they
elected me Prosecuting Attorney, and I would like to bring that same commitment and
integrity to the office of Superior Court Judge. If elected I will treat everyone fairly and
render evenhanded, common sense decisions. I have the knowledge, experience, and
temperament to be judge. I believe that my broad range of experience, as an attorney, in
business, and in life, would serve me well if I am elected, and I would be honored to
serve as Superior Court Judge. I respectfully ask for your support.”
