City of Jasper, Three Other Teams Winners of $5,000 Public Finance Hackathon Prize Pool
Local Sources — The Indiana Bond Bank, an Indiana quasi-state agency, announces the winners of its fourth annual public finance focused design sprint, Flipping Finance Challenge 2022 - including a team representing the City of Jasper.
The event awarded $5,000 in total prizes, received 29 submissions from 26 teams, and attracted almost 80 innovators – an almost 50% increase from the Flipping Finance Challenge’s prior high.
Geared toward ordinary Hoosiers with little or no public finance experience, teams came together to design solutions to pressing local government issues in and around public finance.
Five entities presented challenge statements from which the innovators could select: the Indiana Executive Council on Cybersecurity, Maverick Energy Consulting, Jay County, City of Jasper and Town of Winfield. Each entity selected their “Top 2” solution submissions and awarded cash prizes.
And for the first time in the event’s history, the Treasurer of State, who serves as the Chair of the Indiana Bond Bank Board of Directors, awarded the “Indiana Treasurer of State’s Award for Innovation in Public Finance”. The Award served as a best-in-show, and went to Team “No Money, No Problems” for a Jay County solution.
“The Treasurer of State’s Award for Innovation in Public Finance was created to recognize creative, nontraditional solutions to local challenges,” said Treasurer Kelly Mitchell. “I was fascinated by the diversity of approaches represented in this year’s submissions, and I congratulate all participants for their diligent efforts.”
