Chief Dick Spotlights JPD’s Focus on the Community
At Tuesday morning’s Jasper Board of Public Works and Safety meeting, the agenda was
focused on efficiency and preparedness.
Police Chief Chad Dick’s request to begin a traffic auxiliary process was approved by the board,
which will add two additional traffic officers. In his report, Chief Dick discussed several of the
calls responded to by officers this month. The department responded to an incident at
Deaconess, where a known felon with a weapon was reported. After fleeing the scene and
threatening the life of the responding officer, the armed suspect was taken into custody
without incident. Dick said that on another occasion, an officer responded to a medical call to
administer emergency life-saving measures. At another scene, a suspect was arrested for
dealing cocaine. Chief Dick commended the officers’ work to make the community safer, saying,
“Sometimes just looking at numbers doesn’t give you the bigger picture of what our officers
do.”
Quotes were opened for a roof replacement at Fire Station 2, and the bid from Schmitt
Contracting was accepted, pending review. Fire Chief Kenny Hochgesang received the board’s
consent to request quotes for four truck radios and for the replacement of the floor in Station
3. The Chief also told the board that the air compressor at Station 2 failed and was replaced.
In other business, the Street Department was granted permission to accept the low bid for 60
traffic signs to replenish the City’s inventory. A bid for a new salt spreader was also accepted.
The board approved Resolution 2025-1, an interlocal agreement between City of Jasper and
Dubois County concerning North Ridge subdivision street bond agreement. They also approved
the addition of the fire station to the new Smithville contract, as part of an effort to consolidate
billing from Smithville for multiple city offices and locations.
The Jasper Jaycees Easter will host their annual Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 19 at 10 am. The
event will be held at Jaycee Park and the Armory Parking Lot. The date for the Live to Rise: Fun
Run for Recovery was updated and will now be held at Dave Buehler Plaza on Saturday,
September 20 at 10 am. On the original date of September 27, the Walk to End Alzheimer’s will
begin at 9 am, also at Buehler Plaza.
