CenterPoint Energy’s Budget Bill customers to receive decrease in bills
Local Sources- Some CenterPoint Energy customers could see a decrease in their bill this month.
Due to stable weather and a decrease in energy costs, CenterPoint Energy customers in southwestern Indiana will see the following decrease on their monthly budget bills beginning this month:
- Customers with only electric service will see a decrease in their monthly amount due of approximately 9 percent.
- Combination of electric and natural gas customers will see an approximately 13 percent decrease.
- Customers with only natural gas service will see an approximately 22 percent decrease in their monthly bills.
“We are pleased to report a decrease for our average Budget Bill customers due to key factors such as the stabilization of energy costs and relatively normal weather,” said Richard Leger, Senior Vice President, Indiana Electric. “CenterPoint Energy’s Budget Bill is a helpful option for customers who want to plan for consistency in their energy bills each month.”
Under the Budget Bill payment plan, a customer's estimated annual natural gas and/or electric service costs are spread out in equal monthly bill amounts for the year. Currently, CenterPoint Energy recalculates customers’ Budget Bill amounts annually to verify customers’ original Budget Bill amount remains accurate. The new recalculated amount is based upon the past 12 months of a customer’s energy usage, normal weather and expected natural gas and/or electricity fuel costs.
“Even though most Budget Bill customers will experience a decrease in payments, they should
still focus on conservation and energy efficiency measures to help maintain or reduce energy usage,” added Leger. “CenterPoint Energy has a number of resources that can help, including rebates on high-efficiency heating and air conditioning equipment and low- and no cost energy efficiency tips.”
CenterPoint Energy customers will see their new Budget Bill amount on their bills this month.
Some Budget Bill customers may not see as large of a decrease due to the timing of their enrollment or variances in historical consumption. Customers must be in good financial standing to be eligible for Budget Bill. Customers wanting to enroll in Budget Bill can visit CenterPointEnergy.com/IndianaBilling
