Byrne Sworn in as State Senator for Senate District 47

Local Sources - State Senator-elect Gary Byrne (R-Byrneville) became the state senator for Indiana Senate District 47 after taking the oath of office Monday. He was sworn in by Indiana Supreme Court Justice Mark Massa.

Byrne fills the position previously held by State Sen. Erin Houchin, who retired earlier this month. Byrne will finish the remainder of Houchin's term, which ends in November of 2022, serving Crawford, Orange, Harrison, Perry and Washington counties, and eastern Dubois County.

“It's an honor to have the opportunity to represent Senate District 47," Byrne said. "I look forward to finishing the remainder of session and representing the concerns of our community at the Statehouse."

Byrne has lived his entire life in Byrneville and is currently the co-owner and president of Byrne Satellite, a family-owned business that he and his wife Angie launched in 1983. Byrne has served on the North Harrison School Board twice from 2006-2010 and 2012-2016. He also served as councilman for Harrison County from 2016-2020.

Byrne and his wife live on their family farm in Byrneville, which has been in his family for 200 years. Byrne is a proud father of three sons and a grandfather of five grandchildren with twins on their way in June
