BeeHive Homes Break Ground in Huntingburg

Huntingburg - The construction of Huntingburg's newest assisted living facility is underway.

The husband and wife team of Shane and Stacy Lindauer, surrounded by construction partners, Mayor Steve Schwinghamer, and City Council members broke ground on the Chesnutt Street property at 10:10 a.m. Friday morning.

"We really felt like this was from God," Shane said. "That this was the right place, the right time for a facility like this, and so we just started down this path."

The path began in 2019, when Lindauer was looking for a new career and began speaking to former Huntingburg Mayor Denny Spinner, who had identified an assisted living facility as a city need. Mayor Spinner and the City had already been in contact with BeeHive Homes, and the Lindauer's began to kick the tires on a potential property.

A call to local property owner Ruger Kerstien revealed that he, too, had considered BeeHive Homes to pair with an independent living facility, Chestnut Gardens, next door.

"It was always a dream of Shane and I's to be able to raise a family in a small-knit community, and we are blessed to be able to do that with our two boys," Stacy said. "Really, that is what sold us and attracted us to Bee Hive's facilities. It was this idea of providing care around the idea of the family."

The duo has chosen to build for a smaller number of residents to create that family feel.

Future residents of BeeHive Homes of Huntingburg can expect 24-hour staffing, housecleaning and laundry services.
