Authorities Investigate Fatal Crash in Perry County Over the Weekend

PERRY COUNTY -- At approximately 10:26pm on April 6, 2019, central Dispatch received a call in reference to a single vehicle accident on St. Croix Road. They immediately dispatched emergency personnel. Upon first responders arriving on scene, they located a male subject unconscious in a vehicle. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.

From the information gathered, it appeared the vehicle had been traveling south on St. Croix Road. The vehicle then struck a tree head on, coming to rest down an embankment.

The victim was identified as Clay Atkins, age 21 from Leopold, Indiana.

Assisting the Perry County Sheriff’s Office with this investigation was the Indiana State Police, Perry County EMS and Rescue, Perry County Coroners Office, Central Perry Fire Department, Central Dispatch and Ohio Valley Towing.
