Astra Theatre Welcoming Blues Artist April 8th

Jasper- The Astra Theatre will be welcoming Selwyn Birchwood, who was described as “a major player. . . highly recommended” by Rolling Stone, on Saturday, April 8.

This “powerhouse young guitarist and soulful vocalist” will take to the Jim & Pat Thyen Performance Stage with opening music by Chris Tapp from The Cold Stares kicking off at 7:30 PM and Birchwood following at 8:30 PM.

Tickets are on sale now at www.AstraTheater.com.  Reserved seating tickets on the main floor and balcony are $20 with a $35 VIP option. The VIP ticket includes preferred parking in the Matrix parking lot, a $5 concession voucher, and an exclusive pre-show acoustic set starting at 6 PM. Doors open for all other ticket holders at 6:30 PM.

Birchwood describes his original music as “electric swamp funkin’ blues, defined by raw and soulful musicianship played with fire-and-brimstone fervor.” His gritty, unvarnished vocals draw his audience deep inside his unforgettable tales of love, passion, pain and pleasure. Birchwood's voice and vision are clear, his sound is edgy and compelling, and his stories are memorable and lasting.

Be sure to check out Birchwood’s latest album, Living In A Burning House. He states, “They say everything is better when it’s made with love. That’s how we play our music and that’s how we made the new album. I want my audience to say, ‘I know exactly what that feels like,’ when a song hits them. Because that’s when it stops just being music and starts being medicine.”

Fan-favorite Chris Tapp will begin the evening with some rock and roll music with a blues influence. Tapp hails from Evansville, IN and is a member of the American rock band The Cold Stares. Their music has been described as a “roots rocking firestorm,” and there is no doubt that Tapp will get this evening started with a bang.

In addition to sharing the evening with Selwyn Birchwood, the Next Act, Inc. invites you to join them at the Astra Theatre for future 2023 events. These events will include stand-up comic Tommy Ryman on Saturday, March 11, the screening Office Space on Saturday, May 13, and the highly anticipated return of the Rock Lotto on Saturday, July 15.  All events will have tickets available on our website at AstraTheater.com as soon as they are available.

The historic Astra Theatre is located in the heart of downtown Jasper, Indiana. Newly renovated with 357 seats, the Astra has main level and balcony seating with a concessions stand offering snacks, local craft and domestic beer, and wine that are available for purchase.
