"Moderate Drought Conditions" Continue; Officials Warn it Won't Get Better Anytime Soon

From Local Sources

AREA WIDE -- It’s cooler today [Friday] but things are expected to stay dry.

Emergency officials say our area is now seeing moderate drought conditions and that doesn’t look to change anytime soon.  Rainfall estimates show we could see up to a tenth of an inch of rain over the course of this week.  Obviously, that would do nothing to improve drought conditions.

A burn ban remains in effect for Dubois, Martin, Spencer, Warrick, Crawford, Perry, Pike, Lawrence and Jackson Counties.

Under the declaration, the following is banned…

- Campfires and other recreational fires

- Open burning using conventional fuel such as wood or other combustible materials (grills are exempt)

- Burning of debris, timber, vegetation, etc.

- Burn barrels for any open burning at a residential structure
