Jasper- One of the biggest gifts giving holidays is right around the corner.
With Christmas a little over a week away, the Jasper Chamber of Commerce is encouraging the local community to participate in a “Cash Mob”. Cash Mobs are designed to increase the local economies by shopping local and spending dollars inside independently owned businesses. With the Christmas shopping season nearing its end, the Chamber is asking the community to participate.
“Spend an extra ten to thirty dollars,” said Jasper Chamber Executive Director Nancy Eckerle, “Go to some independently owned businesses in the Jasper and Dubois County area.”
Eckerle says the $10 to $30 numbers come from experience. She says many have a range of that amount extra to spend. She encourages patrons to buy a gift for some who you may not give one to typically or buy something for themselves. The locally owned businesses are full of items between that price range according to Eckerle.
The idea of a Cash Mob is not new, said Eckerle. The Chamber last did one roughly two years ago. Many of the independently owned merchants are on Jasper’s downtown square or within walking distance of the square. All four quadrants of the square have been opened since Thanksgiving, making travel to the merchants easier.
