"A League of their Own" to be celebrated at Victory Film Festival
Evansville- The 2022 Victory International Film Festival returns September 9th and 10th in Downtown Evansville.
The two day festival will feature over 60 films, including celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the release of A League Of Their Own. Friday September 9th at the Victory Theatre films will run from 7-10 pm, with a Red Carpet event starting at 6:00 pm.
Films that will be shown at the Victory Theatre include last year's Best Student Film winner Natalia Coiro with her latest short film Paracosm. Animated filmmaker Mike Chilson also returns to the festival with his latest film Owls: Election Year. Recent Signature School graduate Owen Hollander’s short film Tuskegee Airmen in Indiana about the first African-American air-force troop, and their time stationed in Indiana during WW2.
Then a special presentation of a documentary film In Our Own League - about the making of the film A League Of Their Own and the important role the Evansville area played in the making of that film - including exclusive interviews and never before seen footage from behind the scenes footage from the filming in 1991.
Saturday September 10th screenings kick off at 11 am and will include a special screening of the original 1987 documentary film A League Of Their Own that inspired Penny Marshall to create her film. Other feature films include the Indiana made film Chasing Rabbits from Director Eric Pascarelli, plus German feature films The Ugly Truth and Sweet Disaster (all foreign language films are subtitled in English.) Several short films including the film version of Slammer! The Prison Girl Musical - which had its debut originally in Evansville at the TNT (Totally New Theatre) in 1996. Last year's Grand Prize winner and Best Director for the feature film Electric Jesus, Chris White will be in attendance screening his latest project Vanderchap - making its Indiana and Midwest premiere.
The film festival will feature a variety of films including short films, student films, feature films, documentaries and animated films. Many filmmakers will be in attendance to meet and ask questions after their screenings. Workshops during the event include actor Jim Dougherty returning with his Acting Workshop, photographer Erin Ivie will present a workshop on the importance of Headshots. A filmmaker roundtable hosted by Ted Haycraft. Hailey Reynolds will present information about the new Film Evansville program and information about the new Indiana film incentives the state is now offering. Following the film screenings an awards ceremony will be held to announce this year's winners who will be competing for $3,500.00 in prizes, including the Audience Choice Award - which will be chosen by the attendees of the festival.
