Loogootee's Scott Arthur to be Honored as Basketball's Outstanding Official
Local Sources - Scott Arthur of Loogootee, Indiana is the recipient of the 2022-23 Interscholastic Athletic Official Award for excellence in the sport of Girls Basketball. He will receive the award at halftime of Saturday’s 3A Championship game between Corydon Central and Fairfield at Gainbridge Fieldhouse
Each year, the Indiana High School Athletic Association, in cooperation with the National Federation of Interscholastic Officials Association, recognizes and honors an outstanding official in each sport. Officials selected for this distinction have gone above and beyond to serve their association, community, and the IHSAA. Each have shown exceptional qualities of leadership, dedication, and loyalty to their sport, our student-athletes, and their fellow officials.
Scott has been a licensed IHSAA Basketball official for 30 years and has overseen 20 sectionals, 12 regionals, seven (7) semi-states, and four (4) State Championship games. Scott has also officiated four (4) Boys Basketball State Championship games and is also a licensed IHSAA baseball official calling four (4) State Championships on the diamond.
Scott is a member of the Southwestern Officials Association and has served as served as Baseball Chair and Basketball Chair over time. He has volunteered as an IHSAA Basketball Certification Clinician on numerous occasions, assisting with clinics and trainings in service to other officials in his community. Scott also takes time to mentor new officials and umpires in his community and officiates and coaches in local youth basketball leagues annually.
The most enjoyable aspect of officiating to Scott is the relationships that it has brought to his life, whether it be fellow officials, coaches, or administrators.
Scott was selected for this honor by a committee representing the 24 officials associations in Indiana. There are more than 6,000 officials licensed by the IHSAA in 11 sports. These officials work tirelessly to provide safe, competitive environments for over 160,000 student athletes in Indiana.
