Four Double-Digit Scorers Fuel Lady Rangers to Senior Night Win
Ferdinand – The Forest Park Lady Rangers improved to 7-1 (3-1 PAC) with a 55-35 win over conference foe Princeton on Senior Night.
Seniors Grace Fleck, Madi Wathen, and Ali Welp were recognized with a pre-game ceremony involving their parents, and were in the starting line-up on Thursday night.
Senior Madi Wathen put the Rangers on the board first with a short bank shot – the Lady Rangers would never trail. Forest Park kept the lead from the Princeton Tigers for the remaining 37 minutes and change.
Behind seven first-quarter points from Lydia Betz, Junior, the Rangers jumped out to a 15-5 lead heading into the second quarter. That lead would extend to 30-12 at the halftime break, with seven individual Rangers scoring in the second.
With the lead hovering around 20 points for the bulk of the second half, the Tigers cut the deficit to 14 off an 8-2 run. A quick timeout by Head Coach Tony Hasenour and inbounds lay-up for Carley Begle ensured the lead would not get any closer.
Four Rangers ended the night in double figures, with three tied with 12 apiece: Ali Welp, Amber Tretter, and Carley Begle. Lydia Betz finished with 10. Madi Wathen and Gabey Gray each added four points, while Danielle Eckert finished with one point.
The Lady Rangers shot 16/32 (50%) from inside of the arc, and 5/17 (29%) from deep. The Rangers forced 20 turnovers.
The Junior Varsity team earned a 41-37 win on Thursday.
