Ball State Head Coach Michael Lewis discusses taking over the Cardinal program, NIL changing the college landscape, and IU Transfer Payton Sparks
Ball State HC Michael Lewis on taking over the Cardinal program: "I think when we first walked in, we saw a group of guys with a strong desire to win, but just didn't know how to go about that...Winning plays to winning behaviors to successful habits"
On effort: "We didn't have to coach effort on many days. If you can focus and coach basketball, and try to teach basketball, instead of trying to rev guys up and to coach effort, I think you've got a chance to get better both individually and as a team."
Lewis on NIL, changing landscape: "I think the days of taking over a program and building your program, and recruiting to a style of play are long gone... More or less you're constructing a roster each season."
On Payton Sparks transferring to Indiana to play at Lewis' alma mater: "He's going to walk through the door as the best person in the program. He's an unbelievable human being, great kid, loved coaching him this year... Just a really good person."
