Huntingburg Street Department Prepares for Spring Cleanup

At this Thursday morning’s Huntingburg Board of Public Works meeting, departmental reports were presented to review the hard work being done in preparation for the busy Spring season. Street Superintendent Jason Stamm provided multiple updates along with his report, advising the board on the status of current and upcoming Street Department projects. The department has been busy working on the sidewalk on Chestnut Street between Veterans Parkway and 17 th Street. This section of road will be completed in a longer time frame than usual in order to ensure that affected businesses and the church can continue to operate with minimal interruption.

Stamm also advised the board that he was approached by a representative of St. Mary’s Church with an inquiry regarding a future project. The church is looking to do some improvements around their property, including the paving of a road leading into the cemetery. Their ultimate goal is to expand their parking lot sometime in the next year, which would require the city vacating a portion of the alleyway. The board advised that this request will be considered once appropriate paperwork is submitted in the future.

Huntingburg residents will soon have the opportunity to safely dispose of their unwanted items at the Huntingburg Street Department’s Spring Cleanup. The annual event was approved by the board to be held Thursday, April 11 th from 1 to 7 pm, Friday, April 12 th from 1 to 7 pm, and Saturday, April 13 th from 8am to 4 pm. Prices will remain the same as they have been in past years. As with the last several events, no electronic devices will be accepted. The county will accept these devices for a fee, but they will not be part of the Spring Cleanup event. Other items that cannot be accepted include construction debris such as drywall, wood, shingles, paint in liquid form, and large items like multiple rolls of carpeting, or hazardous materials.

For more information about the event or to ask questions about whether an item can be accepted, contact the City of Huntingburg Street Department at (812) 683-4122.
